I see my job as helping children learn to love reading.  I do this by talking to them about books as well as reading books to them.  I often share books that I've read and encourage them to do the same.  I truly enjoy getting to know what students like and don't like to read.  The best part of my job is when a student tells me that they loved a book.

How do you find books for your children to read?
Children should be encouraged to read books they like!  Helping children find the "right" book takes time and patience.  Don't get discouraged! Take your child to the library or bookstore and let them browse and choose the books.  Having a choice in what they read goes a long way, even with reluctant readers.  

Read with your child.  Share the books they are reading and tell them about the books you're reading.  

Read to your child.  Both picture books and chapter books can be shared every day.  

Celebrate their reading.  Fill out the Governor's Challenge Journal and bring back to school in September for recognition.  Give your own challenge for number of pages or books and give a reward when your child meets the goal.
