Notice of Nondiscrimination

The Barkhamsted School District shall promote nondiscrimination and an environment free of harassment based on an individual’s race, color, religion, age, veteran status, genetic information, marital status, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, marital status or age or because of the race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, past or present history of mental disorder, disability, or pregnancy or because of the status of any other persons with whom the individual associates.

In keeping with requirements of federal and state law, the District strives to remove any vestige of discrimination in employment, assignment and promotion of personnel; in educational opportunities and services offered to students; in student assignment to schools and classes; in student discipline; in location and use of facilities; in educational offerings and materials; and in accommodating the public at public meetings.

The Board encourages staff to improve human relationships within the schools and to establish channels through which citizens can communicate their concerns to the administration and the Board.

Complaints of discrimination or harassment in violation of School Board policies should be filed with the person holding the following position:

Reporting Harassment/Discrimination

A statement of complaint (Discrimination Grievance Form) or (Sexual Harassment Formal Complaint Form) should be submitted by any individual who believes he or she has been the victim of discrimination or harassment prohibited by law. The allegation should be reported as soon as possible of the occurrence. Further, an employee or student who has knowledge of conduct which may constitute discrimination or harassment should report such conduct to the Division Level Officer or to any school personnel. All complaints will be addressed promptly, with further investigation conducted where needed to confirm facts or resolve disputed facts.
