Report Cards

It is the goal of The Barkhamsted School that students and families be informed about progress toward mastery of grade level content and performance standards.  The essence of standards-based report cards is to provide specific feedback to families about student progress.  The Barkhamsted School report cards are reflective of the Connecticut Core Standards for English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.  In addition, special area teachers, such as Art, Music, Library Media, Spanish, Physical Education and Health use national standards.

Educational standards are the learning goals for what students should know, understand and be able to do at each grade level.  The performance indicators measure a child’s progress toward mastery of the standards by prioritizing the most recent consistent performance, rather than averaging grades over a term.

Reporting student progress is ongoing throughout the school year and occurs in many forms such as report cards, conferences and teacher communication with families.

You are encouraged to discuss any questions you may have with your child’s teacher(s).  Please review the “Report Card Grading Key” to better understand our grading criteria.
